What are you going to be for Halloween?

It's October and everyone's talking about Halloween costumes. Whether it be the silly green paint you had on your nine-year-old face as Frankenstein's Monster or last year's idea that seemed cool but nobody knew what you were dressed up as, it's fun to talk about costumes of the past and future masquerades. In the spirit of the holiday, I thought I'd share my last two Halloween costumes with you.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to my limited pictures from childhood Halloweens. My parents never got into the whole Kodak moment thing and rarely pulled out a camera, which is odd considering my interests. In fact, I think I only have pictures of two costumes even though I dressed up every year and sometimes quite extravagantly. One was a ballerina and one was Minnie Mouse (my brother was Mickey). Cute they may have been, but I'm pretty sure my mom picked them out and I don't remember wearing them.

Anyway, here was last year's costume. Guess what I am?

What?!?!? You have no idea what I'm dressed up as? A pirate with an M-16? I am supposed to be an Anarchist. Because of the way I'm holding the gun, you can't see my anarchy symbols and writings on the shirt. A couple people at our party figured out what I was, but I think most were confused. This was a cheap costume idea that seemed unique and interesting, but didn't turn out as well as intended.

The year before that, Nick and I had pretty good costumes and I'm sure you can guess what we are.

Satisfying the gamer in both of us, Nick (the husband) was Mario and I was the Princess. Not the most clever idea, but it was a difficult task finding men's overalls in Orange County, CA (after all it's not the 90's anymore) and finding a pink princess dress that fit someone over the age of ten. I actually lucked out and randomly found what appears to be an imitation Princess Peach dress in a vintage clothing store. Halloween is the only thing I will put on a pink dress and a blonde wig for.

So what about this year? What am I going to be? Some friends, Nick, and myself are all going as different types of rockers. Nick is going as a late 60's/early 70's psychedelic rocker, complete with a crush velvet shirt. I am going as a Joan Jett-type rocker, transitioning from the 70's into the 80's. I'm going to look ridiculous in faux snakeskin pants and a leather vest that zips up sideways. One of our friends is planning to look like Judas Priest front man Rob Halford. He will look Metal-tastic strapped in leather and toting a shaved head. Perhaps going as rockers isn't the most clever idea, but I always enjoy putting together my own costume and I think it's fun to do themes with other people. I'll be sure to post pictures after Halloween.

What about you guys? What are you planning on doing for Halloween? What did you dress up as last year? What's your favorite costume? Please share.

  1. Um, that M16 looks incredibly real.

I'm planning to dress up as zombie Michael from Thriller. Anyone know where to get a cheap red leather jacket?

  2. How can you be so sure it's not real? ;) It's an Air Soft gun.

Zombie Michael is a great idea. For the red jacket, I would try thrift stores or vintage stores. You may luck out and find something at the Goodwill or Salvation Army as well.

  3. For some reason I don't have many Halloween costume pics from the past either, except for one where I was Simba. Of all things not to photograph, why would my mom choose Halloween? I'd rather be missing pictures from the first day of school.

    I'm being a zombie '80s chick this year :)

    All hail the Internet!

Zombie Superheroes (DC or Marvel) has always been a dream of mine, but I lack enough friends to meet the quanity standards of a "team".

  6. Zach, that website is funny. Although, you'd have to pick an internet sensation that you know everyone has seen.

  9. I thought you were a Somalian pirate. ;)

Love both your outfits from last year. Nick's pose is great!

Last year I was "D*ck in a Box" guy and it really went over well in downtown Philly.

This year was thinking of being Kenny Powers from "Eastbound and Down", but I fear that not many people will know who I am. I need something with impact, so I need to fgure it out soon.

  10. Carl, Sounds awesome. Your baby will look so cute. I'm sure you will be posting pics right?

Geof, I honestly probably wouldn't guess what you were if you went as Kenny Powers. Then again, it depends on the crowd. That D*ick in a Box costume sounds awesome though!

  11. I kind of thought you were a Zombie apocalipse survivor.
Still this Halloween, I'm getting married which means that I won't be digging out the fake blood stained surgial scrubs, which is kind of a shame...oh well guess I can still dig out my "Monster Mash" Record atleast :)

  14. I don't know if I'm dressing up this year. I haven't done anything besides work on Halloween for the last few years. The last time I dressed up it was as Leatherface from TCM (minus the chainsaw). It was pretty cool, I guess. The costume I'm proudest of is my homemade Freddy Krueger outfit from when I was in like the 5th or 6th grade or something. It looked like shit but it was creative! I had the glove and the hat and everything, but the makeup I used was a little ghetto and kept peeling off of my face.
